| Joyce
Parr
is an extraordinary storyteller. She brings with her years of experience
performing in front of audiences of all sizes and ages. She believes that
stories are healing and they are personal and spiritual vehicles for connecting
us to other people and to God or whatever higher being is acknowledged.
Engagement,
involvement and participation are key in her presentations. Joyce's motto
is reach and teach by "any means necessary." Her teaching style is to "teach
up" not down. Joyce's craft is storytelling, but her hidden teaching agenda
is respect, which she infuses in every lesson.
Joyce
draws on her knowledge as a parent, grandparent, educator and youth
coordinator
to make the academics come alive and meaningful through creative drama
and thinking outside the box of tradition. This has led her to develop
and facilitate such workshops as: "Think Outside the Box and Color Outside
the Lines" using classic and contemporary literature, poetry and rap to
make the bible come alive.
Joyce
is committed to use her artistry to open windows of learning in both academic
and social areas through the use of literature, drama, visual art, even
math and computer skills.
"Just
as a painter loves to paint,
as a writer loves to write,
as a singer loves to sing,
I love theatre/storytelling"
